Update:
We have recently added a BaNES GP practice to our service, the Heart of Bath practice. If you are a patient at this practice you can use the contact details above to order repeat prescriptions. Patients at all other BaNES GP practices should continue to order prescriptions directly from the surgery.

How does POD work? ↓

Your order will be reviewed by a GP and, once it has been approved, will be ready for collection after one week from a nominated pharmacy.

All calls made to POD will be answered by a trained advisor, prescribing clerk or a member of the CCG's Medicines Optimisation team.

Any information shared over the telephone will be kept confidential.

When is POD open? ↓

Calls to POD can be made between 9am and 5pm every weekday, excluding bank holidays.

The service is not open at weekend.

How long will I have to wait in the call queue? ↓

Average wait times for last week:

Monday 23 May   Data not available
 Tuesday 24 May   9 minutes 27 seconds
 Wednesday 25 May  5 minutes 50 seconds
 Thursday 26 May  6 minutes 44 seconds
 Friday 27 May  9 minutes 42 seconds

Do I have to register with the service? ↓

There is no need to register with this service, simply call us when you are down to the last 7 days of your medication.

How long will it take to order my medication? ↓

The call will take only a few minutes. In order to ensure your medication is ready for you to collect, please allow 7 days until you collect your medication. Once you have ordered your prescription, it will be sent to your GP practice for signing, then electronically (in most cases) sent to your chosen pharmacy or appliance contractor to dispense.

What should I do if POD is closed? ↓

Patients needing urgent medication outside of normal POD opening times should do one the following:

  • arrange a prescription through their GP surgery
  • speak to a pharmacist about getting an emergency prescription
  • Contact the GP Out-of-Hours Service by calling 111

Why use POD? ↓

As well as making it more convenient to request medication, the POD service will also ensure that people are prescribed the correct and appropriate amount of medicine.

This helps to reduce prescription waste across Swindon and parts of Wiltshire, something which costs the NHS in the UK an estimated £300million every year.

Patients whose prescription is normally delivered direct to their home by their local pharmacy will still be able to use POD to order new or existing medication.

Why can't I use POD if I live in some parts of B&NES or Wiltshire? ↓

Many of our GP practices in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES) and Wiltshire manage repeat prescriptions themselves, so please contact your practice directly to arrange this. You don't need to visit in person- you can do this via GP online or by calling them.
