What does your day look like?
I’m usually in the surgery by 7.30-8am, and then do GP consultations until about 6 followed by a couple of hours admin.
I also supervise GP trainees and students.
What do you love about your job?
The patient contact and interaction, it is always a privilege to be a part of peoples’ lives.
Teaching and supporting the next generation of clinicians.
Working in a wonderful team of staff who are predominately women.
What have you learnt over the last two years?
That being in a supportive and caring team can get you through most difficult situations.
Proactively look after the team you are in and that will reap benefits for all.
Look after yourself and your loved ones - enjoy your family and social life and encourage others to do the same.
What would you say to a young girl looking to come into your profession?
I love being a Dr - it's a profession with lots of options to suit your skills and interests and General Practice is worth considering as it's endlessly fascinating and deeply satisfying as a speciality.
It's not an easy job and you should only go into it if you are passionate about being a Dr so get as much exposure to the profession as possible.
Why is celebrating women in healthcare important?
Women are the backbone of health care in all respects.
I have worked in health care in many different countries and what has always stood out is the commitment and dedication that female health care workers have shown despite the difficulties they have faced.
